Valentine's Day

We are attending our Homeschool Valentine Party and will be decorating mailboxes before passing out valentines. We used Eggo boxes and covered them with pretty valentine paper! Cut a hole out and now it's ready to decorate at the party!! They turned out just lovely, I think!

We filled a long table with all kinds of Valentine decorations for the kids to use to decorate their boxes they brought.

They all did a magnificent job!  You can see Flower, Thumper, and Bambi's boxes made out of the Eggo Boxes.  They were then filled with Valentine Cards & goodies that everyone brought!

Valentine cards from the kids to Mom and Dad!

I made these Valentine bags from paper, ribbon, and tape.  I took a sheet of scrap paper, folded it in half, taped the side, hole punch and thread ribbon at the top, and done.  We stuffed them with Aaron's Thinking Putty, Madlibs, and other valentine goodies!
Flower made these flower petal pen toppers from duck tape.
We had a big Valentine Tea Party!

THE OLD NORTH STATE SONG

Carolina! Carolina! heaven's blessings attend her,
While we live we will cherish, protect, and defend her,
Tho' the scorner may sneer at and witlings defame her,
Still our hearts swell with gladness when ever we name her.
Chorus:
Hurrah! Hurrah! the Old North State forever,
Hurrah! Hurrah! the good Old North State.
Tho' she envies not others, their merited glory,
Say whose name stands the foremost, in liberty's story,
Tho' too true to herself e'er to crouch to oppression,
Who can yield to just rule a more loyal submission.
(Repeat chorus)
Then let all those who love us, love the land that we live in,
As happy a region as on this side of heaven,
Where plenty and peace, love and joy smile before us,
Raise aloud, raise together the heart thrilling chorus.
(Repeat chorus)

To go along with Thumper's America lesson today we watched this Reading Rainbow episode.....We have been reading about our symbols of America.  Today we learned about the Statue of Liberty.......This episode was a perfect addition to end our lesson.
Reading Rainbow: The Statue of Liberty

Timeline Update

I wanted to show how our timeline is coming along.  It is filling up with all sorts of figures from History to Science and from World to American History!  The kids are doing an awesome job keeping up with their figures while traveling through history!

The bottom picture shows part of the SOTW figures for the study of Ancients. (Vol 1 of Story of the World) We use History Through the Ages timeline figures.

Flower's Crafty Blog

Here is Flower's New blog all about getting crafty.  She has learned to make doll clothes and accessories for her American Girl doll Molly.  Bambi is following along with Flower, learning the sewing trade!  They are having a ball with it and are making some pretty cool things!

Her hopes are to start selling doll dresses.....so check it out!  She would be delighted if you dropped in!

Sewing doll dresses and accessories!

The girls have been on the ball with sewing for their American Girl dolls.  Here they have turned their old socks into lil' socks for their dolls.  They have been working on these lil' hand bags, too.  Flower has been instructing Bambi on how to cut a pattern for a dress......She just finished her doll's tutu.  I'll have to post Flower's blog, where she is putting pictures and tutorials on how to make all of these dainty little doll clothes, later with her permission.

Thumper is practicing his sewing by hand and making a little bag.
